Introduction

Genius Foods by Max Lugavere Genius Foods explores how diet directly impacts brain health and cognitive performance. Have you ever wondered how your diet truly impacts your brain? Imagine a world where every meal you eat could sharpen your mind. Or it could slowly diminish its power.

This book reveals how your food choices directly influence your cognitive health. They also impact your overall well-being.

Diet and Brain Performance

Optimizing your diet can boost your brain performance at any point in life. Ever wondered how some 90-year-olds remain so whip smart? Chances are, it might relate to what they have been eating. This includes their diet over the last half century.

There are plenty of myths about the way the brain works. One misconception is that our brains stop developing at 25. After that, it is often claimed, it is all downhill. But that is actually just not true.

In fact, our brains can continue improving throughout our lives. Scientists proved as much in the 1990s. Brains, they discovered, continue changing until death. This is known in neuroscience as neuroplasticity.

Food plays an important part in keeping the brain healthy. Choosing the correct diet does not just help prevent future illnesses like dementia. It can also dramatically improve the brain function today. The author noticed this after researching brain health and diet.

He sought to understand his mother's early onset Alzheimer's. After adapting his own diet, he became more focused, energetic, and balanced. What we eat has a massive impact on overall brain health. A 2017 study by the Food and Mood Center at Deakin University found something.

It found severe depression can be treated by making dietary changes. Participants cut sugar, fried foods, and processed meats from their diets. They ate more vegetables, olive oil, nuts, fish, and whole grains. Legumes and lean red meat were also included.

Their depressive symptoms were radically reduced. Finnish neurobiologist Mia Kivipelto is an expert on diet and lifestyle. She found healthy eating can boost cognitive function more generally. Kivipelto's study included 1,200 older adults at risk of cognitive decline, half enrolled in social support groups for loneliness, depression, and stress.

They also took part in nutritional and exercise programs. The remaining participants received only social support. The final results were highly significant. The first group saw their cognitive function rise by an astonishing 25%.

Their decision-making and interpersonal skills improved by 83%. This was in comparison to the control group, so that is the science behind healthy eating. Better dietary choices can make you smarter, happier, and more productive.
