Introduction
Deep Creativity by Deborah Ann Kweibel, Dennis Patrick Slattery, and Jennifer Lee Selig Deep creativity shows that creative expression is a natural, living force within all of us. But what if we could reclaim this vital energy to enrich our daily existence?
This book is an invitation to reconnect with that inner power. Through personal stories and reflections, the authors show us how to awaken what is already within. It is time to honor your creative impulse and build a deeper relationship with the forces that inspire you.
Love
Love. Have you ever wondered what is going on deep below your consciousness' surface? If you ask a depth psychologist, they will tell you a lot. Underneath the conscious level, our psyche is constantly active, influencing us in mysterious ways.
It is constantly creative, too. What are dreams and fantasies, ideas and moods, but imaginative creations of our subconscious mind? Our inherent creativity is something we should all celebrate and cherish. The authors call it deep creativity.
This creativity stems from the depths of our subconscious being. At this deep level, we are all creative and should cultivate it. So, let us dive in and explore. The key message here is clear, we are all creative at a deep level.
We can embrace this in various ways, starting with love. The three authors identify seven ways to tap into our deep creativity. We will explore each in turn, starting with the first way, love. Romantic love is a well-established engine of creativity.
Just think of the great Italian poet Dante. He wrote reams of poetry after a fleeting encounter. His muse was a woman named Beatrice. But other sorts of love can also inspire creative work, even the love of creating itself.
Recently, Dennis, one of the authors, took up painting for the first time in decades. Back in high school, a teacher had chastised him for painting unrealistically colorful trees. But he now realizes that for him, realism is completely beside the point. What is important is the love of creation.
Deborah Ann Quabelle, one of the authors, notes that reality can be inspirational. She describes reality as the particularity of the world. She encourages everyone to look at and love the precise way that things truly are. Look at the leaves on a tree in fall.
What story are they telling, as they curl brown and fall to the earth below? Love the world around you, and it will reward you with inspiration. When Jennifer, the third author, thinks of love, she thinks of life itself. When she was 12 years old, she almost died when a friend shot her at point blank range.
Luckily, the gun was only loaded with blanks. However, this near-death experience opened her up to the simple joy of existence. She loved the wonders of the world around her. How does love inspire you personally?
Whether love for a person, the world, or creation itself, it can help you unlock your innate creativity.
